All businesses within the county of East Lothian who are manufacturing food or drink product/s from a business premises will be included in this BID.
Current legislation does not allow for businesses operating from domestic premises, or agriculturally rated premises, to be included in the BID Ballot however voluntary membership is open to all food or drink businesses, as defined above.
Joining the new board, responsible for delivering the business plan of the first food and drink Business Improvement District (BID) in the world, are Louise Elder, Black & Gold Rapeseed Oil; Bob Knops, Knops Beer; Ali Gower, The Chocolate Tree; Viv Muir, NB Gin; Ian Rennie, Thistly Cross Cider; Simon Turner, Pure Malt; Richard Baty and Fiona Edgar, East Lothian Council.
The BIDs business plan laid out plans to further enhance and develop East Lothian’s thriving food and drink sector, utilising new and exciting opportunities for collaboration in marketing and distribution.
Amongst the first tasks of the new board will be to develop a brand proposition and website to raise awareness of the member businesses and their product portfolio. A full review of the commercial and distribution opportunities is also a priority in the next 12 months.
By working together under the umbrella brand the BID will deliver a range of projects and services looking to attract further investment to East Lothian’s food and drink sector and develop working partnerships with commercial and public agencies.
The new East Lothian Food & Drink BID Board took over from the previous BID Steering Group on the 3rd of August.
Louise Elder, newly elected chair of the BID, said: “We will be working with partners and stakeholders to deliver the first 12 months of the BID’s five-year business plan – a variety of programmes voted for by eligible food and drink businesses in East Lothian to grow and develop East Lothian’s great food and drink sector.”
